Huge development in Lauren murder mystery – but not all is as it seems

A number of intriguing scenes have played out in Coronation Street ahead of Roy Cropper’s (David Neilson) next bail hearing.

The legendary café owner is currently hemmed up in a prison cell after being charged with the apparent murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).

With evidence stacked up against him, it currently looks unlikely that he’ll be released any time soon.

Still hopeful of him being granted bail at an upcoming court date, niece Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) was delighted when he telephoned her in tonight’s (24th April) episode.

Even though she was over the moon to hear from him on her birthday, she couldn’t help but worry about his missing dog Freddie, who was taken whilst being walked by Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) earlier this week.

Luckily, Nina’s ex-girlfriend Asha Alahan (Tanisha Corey) had a plan up her sleeve, and had contacted the dognappers to say she would give them some intel on Roy, if they returned the pooch.

Down at the precinct, the two men sat beside her and she began to spread some false information.

Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) was overjoyed when she brought Freddie home, though the kind gesture left Nina wondering if Asha was looking for a reconciliation.

Misreading the situation, she bought her some cupcakes and received a necklace in return, but Asha assured that they weren’t compatible.

Poor Nina – further heartbreak!

Meanwhile, Toyah Habeeb (Georgia Taylor) was alarmed to hear that the police had swarmed North Cross Park after a tip off from some sleuths that Freddie had been digging up Lauren’s supposed burial site.

Revealing to Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) that 23 years ago she gave birth to a stillborn daughter and subsequently hid her body in the park, she panicked that her biggest secret was on the brink of exposure and headed to the police station to confess.

After realising it was a false alarm, she and sister Leanne (Jane Danson) paid tribute to the baby, who she had named Rose, and placed a teddybear on the grave.

Elsewhere, Roy continued to shut himself off from the world and refused to eat.

After the prison officer expressed his concern, Roy began to experience more worrying hallucinations of Lauren – and this time pictured Max Turner (Paddy Bever) in his mirror.

Has Roy picked up on a suppressed memory of Max’s involvement in her disappearance?
