Is Rob Donovan dead on Coronation Street? Villain’s future ‘sealed’ after actor returns
Rob Donovan made a surprise return to the Coronation Street cobbles as Marc Baylis reprised his role as the evil killer of fan favourite Tina McIntyre
Rob Donovan plays a key part in tonight’s episode of Coronation Street as he makes a break for it.
The villainous character – played by Marc Baylis – made a shock return a few weeks ago. Bobby had visited his dad in prison and begged him to give Carla Connor a kidney, which he eventually agreed to give on the premise DS Swain could get him out of prison.
Kate Brooks told The Mirror : “There are some things that are going to cause problems for Carla and Lisa, and one very big one in particular. There is a big one… a big Rob Donovan return! We last left Rob languishing in prison. He made mistakes. He comes back to the show and we think he might be a reformed character who has seen the error of his ways, but whether that’s the case or not, I don’t know! He definitely comes back and causes a lot of trouble for Carla and Lisa.
“Just when Carla and Lisa think it’s safe to sit down and watch Netflix, Rob Donovan comes along and scuppers all of that. So, it’s a big story for them and a big story for Rob. Lots of twists and turns. It’s a big story for Betsy as well, who is fabulous and will be right at the centre of that. I love Rob and Carla. I love tapping into their history together, and we really explore that through this story. There’s so many twists and turns along the way, it’s really exciting. It’s going to be eventful for Carla and Lisa.”
Rob is having an affair with prison guard Mandy
In dramatic scenes tonight, Rob ends up at the bottom of the stairs – but what happens to him?
Fans will no doubt be left worried about favourites Carla and Lisa after Rob makes a break for it. After realising the truth about Rob and prison guard Mandy’s affair, Lisa promised to try and get Rob’s conviction overturned in exchange for his kidney for Carla.
Stealing one of the prison guard’s uniform, Rob decides he will do anything to be free from prison but he ends up at the bottom of the stairs in a shock turn of events. Is he dead and if he is, who is responsible for his death?
We are yet to find out whether Rob survives the shock fall – but has executive producer Kate Brooks given us a clue?
“It’s not just a couple of episodes – it’s a good chunk. He killed Tina, but we can get over that. Michelle’s fine on Netflix! It’s really exciting, and what I like about this story in particular is that Carla and Lisa are finally together and united,” Kate said, “Everyone knows about them and they’re moving on with their lives, and then this drops on them, and they’re like, ‘How did that happen? Are we not meant to be relaxing and enjoying being with each other?’ So, it’s a real test for their relationship in the early stages, but a good test.”
