‘It’s a big deal’ Coronation Street’s Colson Smith has his final scenes amid ‘very real’ exit
Colson Smith has revealed how he’s feeling ahead of filming his final Coronation Street scenes, admitting that it’s all starting to become ‘very real’ after he got the script.
The actor, who portrays PC Craig Tinker in the ITV soap, confirmed in January that, after 14 years on the cobbles, he would be leaving the show.
‘Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker’s time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025,’ he wrote on Instagram at the time.
‘I’ve loved every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street.
‘I’ve learned pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I’m excited to play out the exit story for our Craigy. For me, this is the end of the beginning.
‘I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter two has in store for me.’
It’s currently unknown how exactly Craig will be written out of Corrie, but Colson has received his final scripts, confirming that saying goodbye is ‘a lot to process’ for him.
‘It feels very real’, he said on On The Sofa podcast.
‘I think it’s that bit of, I didn’t realise how big of a deal it was, actually getting your last scripts and reading it.
‘It’s quite a lot to process and go through, but I’m excited for the work, I’m excited to play the exit, really, I just want it to happen in a weird way.’
Colson previously revealed that, following news of his exit, he received a message from Barbara Knox, who plays Rita Tanner.
‘She said: “People come and go all the time… and there’s some people who are there who love the show. You’re one of those people and I just want to say thank you for all the time that I’ve spent with you and the way that you treat me”.
