ITV Coronation Street cancer twist ‘sealed’ as Toyah Battersby gets second bombshell
Toyah Battersby received more bad news in Coronation Street as she learned she suffered from ovarian cancer. Off-screen, ITV viewers are convinced there's more to the situation.
A cancer bombshell was dropped on Toyah Battersby but Coronation Street viewers have urged her to get a second opinion.
After years of fertility struggles, the cobbles favourite portrayed by Georgia Taylor was shocked to the core when she was told she was pregnant, with her sister Leanne (Jane Danson) being completely unaware the father of the baby was her own husband, Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).
But in a cruel twist for Toyah, she was then called back to Weatherfield General Hospital, where she was told she was actually suffering from ovarian cancer and fans of the ITV drama have were fuming after the diagnosis was officially given.

A multitude of viewers took to X, otherwise known as Twitter, to put the storyline on blast as Toyah has been put through the wringer in recent weeks due to her ongoing conflict with Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper). In another recent development, the long-standing Corrie resident was forced to pay staggering legal fees and facing financial ruin.
“Once again soaps love showing women suffer, after all of Toyah’s fertility problems they now take away her pregnancy and give her a cancer scare”, one viewer wrote on the social media platform this Friday, July 5.
A second fan of the Manchester-based programme called out bosses as they deemed the storyline wasn’t realistic: “This Toyah storyline is irritating me. She has a tummy ache and gets admitted? I don’t think. And then they diagnose cancer there and then and don’t just send her back to her GP? The writers haven’t navigated the NHS in a while and it shows.”
A third TV watcher lamented: “Poor Toyah. All that history with her stillborn baby dragged back up, everything with Leanne, sleeping with Nick, being told she’s pregnant, told she’s actually got Ovarian Cancer (Potentially) & instead of supporting her Leanne runs off to Rowan.”
One viewer then commented in disbelief: “So within a few weeks, Toyah has been given a dead baby that didn’t match up with classic #Corrie … got arrested… took on a cult… had an affair… a phantom pregnancy & now cancer. This show desperately needs a new writing team.”
However, one handful of viewers refused to believe Toyah would face the illness as they questioned her diagnosis, with one demanding she gets a second opinion: “get another opinion Toyah ffs! she’s gone from being pregnant to not being pregnant to having cancer what a mind f***.” Another fan echoed: “They aren’t gonna give Toyah cancer, are they?” A third edded: Now we need to see if Toyah actually has cancer or not.”
Whatever the case may be, drama is most definitely on the cards as Nick Tilsley made a shocking confession to his half-brother David Platt when he admitted he may not be in love with Leanne anymore and he could even support Toyah throughout her health ordeal.
