Coronation Street could be saying goodbye to one character after eight years if Friday’s episode is anything to go by.

During the latest instalment, Steve McDonald continued to struggle after learning wife Tracy Barlow had been having an affair with Tommy Orpington. The two had embarked in a secret romance after meeting on Christmas Day at the flower shop.

On Monday’s episode, the duo were confronted after Tim Metcalfe accidentally spotted them last week and it wasn’t long until Steve learnt the truth, leaving the fan favourite gutted.

After the shock discovery, Steve confronted Tracy, where he admitted he’s prepared to forgive her and still loves her. However, in a cruel twist, Tracy admitted she’s not looking for forgiveness and she’s that bored, she wants out of their relationship.

On Friday’s episode, Steve learnt that Tommy had accepted a job as an assistant coach at a football academy in Spain but it wasn’t common knowledge yet, which left Steve intrigued.

Coronation Street star Matt Milburn hinted an exit could be on the cards for one character

Plotting revenge, Steve planned to tell Tracy that Tommy is moving away to Spain but was left heartbroken to learn the duo were out on a romantic meal. With Tommy being offered a job in Spain, could he be leaving the cobbles?

Viewers will recall that fictional footballer Tommy has made several stints on the cobbles over the years after first joining in 2016 and the local Weatherfield celebrity recently returned for a longer storyline.

Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to demand that Tommy stay on the cobbles. One person said: “That’s Tommy written out. #Corrie”, a different account put: “#Corrie Oh no Tommy O is off to Spain!”, another said: “Don’t go Tommy #Corrie” while a different fan added: “Oh no! Don’t get rid of Tommy!”

It comes as Tommy star Matt Milburn admitted he is hoping to stay on the show, and teased a future for Tommy and Tracy. He said: “I think, in the back of his, he probably would want to give it a go but then, at the same time, I think there’s the fear that should he drop his guard and maybe ask her if she wants to go with him, that if she wasn’t on the same page, he wouldn’t want to get burned again. There’s that he’s fighting with.

“It needs to be a real strong bond for him to sort of stay put, but at the same time, I think it’s one of those where it’s up in the air. We will just have to see.”
