Coronation Street fans were horrified over a sinister Denny twist on Friday night.

Soap fans will recall that Paul Foreman was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) last year leaving him distraught. He kept his diagnosis a secret for some time but eventually told husband Billy Mayhew and those close to him what he was going through. Paul celebrated what was believed to be his final Christmas with his family in December and it is expected that Paul will tragically pass away in the next few months before the end of 2024 is up.

Earlier this week, Paul had a radio interview with Amy Barlow, where he talked passionately about his MND and society’s lack of regard for disability in general. The interview was a success with a MND crowdfunder raising £850. During the episode, a man in a van was seen listening to the radio and made a note of Paul’s name.

On Wednesday’s episode, the man was revealed to be Denny as he approached Bernie outside the café, telling her he heard Paul on the radio and didn’t realise his son was dying. Bernie was left completely shocked and quickly lied to cover her tracks, telling Denny that Paul is already dead and the interview was a recording.

However, Denny was suspicious and he followed her up to the flat where Gemma and Paul were shocked to see their dad. It wasn’t long until Denny dropped Bernie in it as he remarked that Paul looks great for someone that’s supposedly dead, leaving Bernie panicked. Both Bernie and Gemma made it clear that he’s not welcome to which Denny begged Paul to hear him out.

Later, over a drink at the Rovers Return Inn, Denny admitted to being an awful dad but promised Paul that he is a changed person. However, it wasn’t long until Denny kept buying the drinks as he got Paul drunk and he threw up, leaving Billy and Bernie furious. Wanting to protect her family, Bernie ordered Denny to stay away but the latter laughed as he reminded Bernie of her guilty secret.

On Friday’s episode, Paul invited Denny to watch a film despite Billy worrying about Denny’s true intentions and he reluctantly decided to leave the estranged father and son to watch the movie. It wasn’t long until Denny nipped out for ice cream, leaving Paul alone and he soon got distracted bumping into Gemma, where he met his grandchildren.

However, while alone in the flat, Paul had a coughing fit and struggled to breathe, he managed to call an ambulance but dropped his phone just before giving his location. Later, Denny returned and was stunned to see Paul barely conscious meanwhile Billy was horrified to see the duo getting into an ambulance. Billy then got in the ambulance with Paul, telling Denny to follow in his van but the latter couldn’t be bothered.

Later, Gemma was horrified to see Denny didn’t go to hospital as he tried to make up an excuse and she dragged him along anyway. At the hospital, as the family gathered, Denny got nasty as he suggested Bernie was to blame for Paul’s MND because of her drug use in the eighties. Paul was quick to defend his mother as the family suggested Denny leave.

However, in a cruel and evil twist, the episode ended with Denny making a call and arranging the sale of Paul’s electric wheelchair in order to get cash. Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers wondered whether Denny was somehow involved in the Rovers robbery earlier this year where Paul’s laptop was stolen before it was found again.

One person said: “It looked like he was going to sell his electronic wheelchair, which makes me think Denny left Paul for so long on purpose and he was involved in that robbery at the rovers, including his stolen tablet. #Corrie #CoronationStreet @itvcorrie”, a different account put: “Denny is gonna sell Paul’s electric wheelchair! What a vile man!! #Corrie”, another wrote: “Denny is a nasty piece of work! #Corrie” while a different viewer added: “Omg Denny is a right scumbag #Corrie #CoronationStreet.”
