Coronation Street aired a sad death twist on Friday’s episode, leaving some of Weatherfield’s residents rocked.

Earlier this week, viewers were left heartbroken for Gemma Winter on Monday’s episode as she resorted to crime in a desperate bid to make ends meet for her family. Gemma and her husband Chesney Brown have recently been struggling to support their large family and five children. And during Monday’s episode, Gemma was devastated to learn that she had received a £70 parking fine in the post.

However, things went from bad to worse when Gemma later learnt that daughter Carys desperately needed new shoes and to get her feet properly measured. Gemma decided to take Carys to a proper shoe shop to get measured and found the perfect pair of shoes but they were a costly £45.

In a desperate bid, while the shopkeeper was distracted, Gemma decided to grab Carys’ hand and flee the shop without paying. Later, Gemma’s mum Bernie was suspicious and rumbled that her daughter had in fact stolen Carys’ shoes, pointing out she could face prison time due to her past criminal record. Unable to cope with the guilt, Gemma later returned to the shop and dumped the shoes where she was chased by staff but managed to escape.

Just when she thought she had put the incident behind her, Gemma was in for a shock later when one of stepson Joseph Brown’s school friends was picked up by their dad, who turned out to be working in the shop that Gemma stole from, where he warned he was going to call the police.

On Friday’s episode, Gemma was arrested and over at the police station, detective Kit Green, who is Bernie Winter’s other secret son and therefore Gemma’s sibling without her realising, was shocked to see her in a cell. It wasn’t long until Bernie begged her secret son to secure Gemma’s release to which he headed to the shoe shop, gently threatening the man to drop the charges.

Eventually, Gemma was released and she was intrigued to know why Kit wanted to help her, introducing him to her family and children in the process. However, while with his secret family, Kit received a call from his father with shocking news as he later revealed: “My mum’s just died, she had a stroke, it came out of nowhere…” as he went to leave, Bernie showed up and learnt the news. Bernie quickly ran after Kit, wanting to support her biological son but he was defensive. However, Kit then softened as he admitted he wanted to get to know his siblings, Gemma and Paul Foreman.

However, when he turned around, Kit looked suspicious and fans have shared their theories. Taking to Twitter, now X, one person said: “Come on then theories please, what is Kit up to ,clearly something #corrie #kit”, a different account put: “Is Kit going to try and build a wedge between Bernie, Paul and Gemma? #corrie”, another wrote: “Not sure I liked that look on Kit’s face then #Corrie” while a different fan added: “Oh what is Kit going to do. Is he having her on ? #Corrie.”
