ITV Coronation Street residents surprised by return twist tonight amid Lauren update

Coronation Street fans will see a past character head back to the show on Friday evening, leaving some residents stunned.

Amid the latest goings on in the Lauren Bolton murder case, with Roy Cropper charged, Daniel Osbourne reaches out to a former character for help. It triggers their return to the show after a couple of years away.

Nicky Wheatley heads back to Weatherfield on Friday for the first time since 2022, as she meets former flame and pal Daniel to try and help with missing Lauren’s case. Lauren vanished in February and has not been seen or heard from since.

After blood and traces of human tissue were found at her flat along with a possible weapon, with the flat also trashed, police believe Lauren is dead. While no body has been found, they claim evidence points to Roy being her killer and he’s been charged, while fans still don’t know who the mystery man was who was harassing her in the lead-up to her vanishing act.

Actress Kimberly Hart-Simpson is reprising her role for the scenes, and it’s thought to be a temporary return. Daniel learns that Lauren may have been involved in sex work, and so reaches out to former sex worker Nicky in case she has the connections to find out what might have happened to Lauren.

What he doesn’t know is that he’s being watched, amid Lauren’s pal Max Turner suspecting Daniel knows more about what happened to Lauren. He and Bobby Crawford follow Daniel to his meeting, and are left reeling to see Nicky return.

Max assumes Daniel has something to hide and wonders why he is meeting with a sex worker. He takes photos of the meet-up but what will he do with them, and is Daniel in trouble?

Whether Nicky does know anything or might be able to help with anything linked to Lauren remains to be seen. But will we finally get closer to the truth about what happened to the teen, and can Roy find a way of proving his innocence? Viewers will have to stay tuned to find out where the plot leads!
