ITV Coronation Street ‘rumble’ real identity of Sabrina’s mate – and it’s ‘bad news’ for Joel

Coronation Street fans are convinced they’ve rumbled the true identity of Sabrina’s friend on the cobbles.

Only recently, Joel Deering was revealed to be Lauren Bolton’s killer in a huge twist. Roy Cropper had initially been wrongly arrested, charged and the number one suspect for the supposed murder of missing teenager Lauren. However, DS Lisa Swain and newcomer Kit thought they had cracked the case as they arrested abuser Nathan Curtis, who previously made Bethany Platt’s life a living misery and was recently released from prison.

As they interrogated Nathan in the prison cell with Joel acting as his solicitor, a graphic flashback played as it looked like it was Nathan but later in the episode, it was revealed in a shocking twist that Joel was in fact Lauren’s killer. So far, Joel has managed to escape justice and the cobbles’ residents are oblivious to his evil ways.

Only recently, Joel picked a new victim after he spotted Max’s on-off girlfriend Sabrina in a state of distress outside the police station and learnt that her brother had been arrested. Joel handed her his business card and told her to give him a call. On Monday’s episode, Joel conveniently bumped into Sabrina in the precinct, where they both had a coffee.

Joel then tempted Sabrina with alcohol as he poured some into her coffee and pretended to pour some into his cup but he didn’t. In a creepy twist, Joel told Sabrina she reminded him of an ex, adding that he was “punching” with his ex, leaving the young girl flattered. However, later on, Sabrina’s mate headed over and pointed out Joel was a creep, warning she should steer clear.

Later in the episode, Sabrina’s mate decided to confront Joel, where she blackmailed the evil solicitor, warning she had a “big gob” and would expose his creepy behaviour. She said: “Doesn’t sound good, does it? Weird old lawyer chatting up young vulnerable woman, supplying her with alcohol!” to which Joel replied: “I was just trying to help”, he then warned Sabrina’s mate to go back to her doll’s house, calling her a “little girl”.

Taking to Twitter, now X, one person said over the scenes: “Just a thought, what if Sabrina’s mystery unnamed friend (the one who is blackmailing Joel) is Betsy – DS Swain’s daughter? #Corrie #CoronationStreet @itvcorrie”, a different account wrote: “Hey DS Swain, is this your daughter?? #corrie” while another added: “Sabrina’s mate looks a lot like DS Swain, is this her daughter? It’s gonna go down for Joel in #Corrie!”

And on Friday’s episode, Joel’s downfall appears to be teased. Appearing on Wednesday’s This Morning, soap expert Sharon Marshall showed a teaser clip of the upcoming instalment, warning: “Oh Joel, secret’s coming out!” In the clip, it sees Joel enjoying an engagement meal with his and new fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey’s family.

However, the joy is short-lived when Sabrina’s mate enters the restaurant with Amy Barlow asking if she can help her to which the youngster replies: “I’m here to see Joel.” Joel looks panicked as he spots the young girl he quickly makes his excuses and heads over, warning: “What are you doing here?” The moment is witnessed by Dee-Dee who looks over and seems confused. Speaking after the clip had aired, Sharon added: “Shaken, shaken! Is she going to ask questions?”
