ITV Coronation Street scene teases shock affair as character ‘betrayed by own sister’

Coronation Street could be lining up a heartbreaking betrayal, with an affair teased for two characters on the ITV soap.

One resident may be betrayed by their own sister and their fiancé in a shocking fling amid devastating scenes on the show. With one couple possibly growing apart, it could lead to one of the pair growing closer to their sister-in-law in a forbidden romance.

During Wednesday’s visit to Weatherfield, viewers saw upsetting scenes as Toyah Battersby opened up about a secret from her past she had never told anyone. After he recent outburst sparked concern, Toyah broke down and confided in brother-in-law Nick Tilsley about why she lashed out.

Toyah had threatened a group of sleuths who were digging at the park, searching for Lauren Bolton’s body. On Wednesday she left Nick reeling, as she sadly confessed she had buried a baby in the same spot the group were digging.

For the first time since she was 19 years old, the character shared what happened and opened up about her heartbreaking secret. Toyah explained that 23 years earlier, she gave birth to a stillborn baby daughter who she named Rose.

Toyah didn’t know she was pregnant until she experienced contractions while home alone, and gave birth on her bedroom floor. Sadly her baby daughter could not be revived, with Toyah explaining to Nick how she cleared up her room after the birth to cover up what had happened.

Toyah said she spent a night with her daughter, before deciding to bury her in the park. While she dumped all evidence including bed sheets and clothes, she wanted to bury her daughter in the park, where she has since grown yellow roses in her memory.

As Toyah sobbed, Nick was in disbelief over the news that she had kept from everyone including her sister Leanne Battersby, Nick’s partner, for decades. Nick asked why she didn’t tell anyone, and she revealed she just could not find the words to tell anyone what had happened.

She also confirmed she had fallen pregnant as a result of her rape at the hands of Phil Simmonds. After burying her baby daughter, who she gave birth to 26 weeks into her pregnancy, Toyah kept her ordeal from everyone until Wednesday, after her behaviour sparked concern on Monday.

Toyah planned to tell the police the truth but Nick stopped her, after informing her the police would not be digging at the park. Later in the episode, Toyah told Nick she was grateful for him being there for her and listening to her story.

She thanked him for helping her reveal the truth about her daughter after all this time, and for helping her find the courage to speak about it. She and Nick then hugged it out, but a moment between them teased there could be feelings there.

As Toyah held onto Nick, she appeared to panic as if to realise there was more to the hug, before she and Nick both gave each other a lingering look. Toyah then suddenly pulled away and walked off, with a look that suggested she was confused over her feelings.

Viewers were convinced it was a hint that there could be an affair brewing as Nick and Toyah grow closer. Taking to X, one fan posted: “Get Nick and Toyah together I want to see Leanne suffer.”

Another said: “BETTER NOT MAKE TOYAH AND NICK HAVE A AFFAIR.” A third added: “Toyah and nick is going to happen isn’t it. Matter of time,” while a fourth wrote: “I spy a Toyah and Nick affair.”
