Earlier this year, ITV bosses were forced to conjure up a new storyline to honour Helen Worth exit, after playing Gail Platt for 50 years. It was confirmed that Sean Wilson, who played Martin Platt, was to make a comeback as part of her exit. But after a discussion with ITV bosses, it was reported that he was axed from the show, despite having filmed a few scenes with his co-stars.

At the time, Sean had maintained his silence until September when he decided to break his silence. Taking to X, he posted a heartfelt message which simply said “Thanks for all the love xxx”, which was accompanied by a large light display that read “LOVE” The scenes that were being filmed were expected to be aired over autumn. According to reports, concern for Sean was raised during his chat with bosses.

A source told the Daily Mail at the time: “What is really odd, is that they had started filming most of the scenes, obviously with other cast members and lots of crew on set, and everyone was expecting to shoot more with Sean before he left again as part of the Gail Platt exit storyline.”

They added: “So to suddenly be told, ‘We’re not continuing and we’re going to re shoot what we’ve already done with another actor’ without any explanation is extremely unusual – unheard of. If nothing else, the soaps hate wasting time and money – so the situation must be serious enough for them to feel carrying on is untenable – but to not tell the colleagues directly involved what is going on has really got the rumour mill fired up on set.”
