Coronation Street star Rob Mallard has teased a massive betrayal in the Lauren Bolton case – as he’s put in the frame for murder.

Roy Cropper is currently DS Swain’s number one suspect for the death of Lauren, but next week, Daniel will find himself in trouble when Bobby tries to get Roy off the hook by giving ‘new information’ about the night Lauren went missing. He is instantly suspected for the murder of the teenager, when the ‘intruder’s’ coat matches the description of a jacket he donated to a charity shop recently.

After all that happens, Daniel is left puzzled by why he’s been hauled into another police interview about Lauren. However, things could get tense between Daniel and Carla Barlow, as she is also involved in Bobby’s false statement.

Asked how Daniel would feel about Carla’s role in Bobby’s false statement which landed him back in the interview room, he said: “Oh massively betrayed! Daniel and Carla have got a long history with each other and they even had a bit of a fling. Daniel made a promise to Peter that he would keep an eye on Carla and treat her as one of the family whilst he is away.”

Speaking to Digital Spy, he added: “This is a massive betrayal from someone, who he thought wouldn’t ever do something like that to him, so I think this will completely change the dynamic between him and Carla.”

For now though at least, Roy Cropper is the number one suspect – and it looks like there’s no way of him proving his innocence.

Speaking about his own feelings towards the storyline, David Neilson – who plays Roy – shared: “I respect the character a lot, I think he’s made a difference and I put a lot into it. He came in as ‘Creepy Cropper’.. I remember when I first came into the show and I was in York somewhere and there was a couple chatting and one said to the other ‘There’s that weirdo from Coronation Street’ and I thought wow. Then of course over time he sort of evolved and people seem to like him and I love him.

“I think what people love is his struggle with life and this is part of his struggle. He’s sort of on the ropes with this one. But he hasn’t got any choice, it has happened to him again. He continues to do what he thinks is the right thing, he can’t do any other. Now that’s the problem. That’s what everyone around him is telling him to do, to behave like others, be more what other people would consider ‘normal’ but he’s not like that. Otherwise he wouldn’t be in this situation and it is only going to get worse.”
