Coronation Street fans are convinced they’ve figured out Steve McDonald’s new love interest on the cobbles.
It comes as Steve’s estranged wife Tracy Barlow appeared to exit the cobbles on Tuesday night as she was seen saying her goodbyes to her relatives including dad Ken Barlow and daughter Amy Barlow. Having leaving drinks at The Rovers, she then hugged it out with her nearest and dearest and left the cobbles to start a new life with lover Tommy Orpington in Spain, seemingly for good.
It remains to be seen if and when Tracy returns but her exit, as well as explosive affair with Tommy, has left Steve utterly devastated. In recent episodes, Steve has tried to get back into the dating game but it has been clear that he’s still in love with Tracy with the two briefly reuniting on Monday night before her decision to leave with Tommy.
With Tracy now gone, soap fans have predicted who Steve’s new love interest could be, suggesting bubbly barmaid Glenda Shuttleworth could be a good match. Taking to Twitter, now X, one person said: “I reckon Steve and Glenda would make a good couple #Corrie”, a different account put: “Steve should be with Glenda. They’ll be an incredible duo act. #corrie”, another wrote: “#Corrie im thinking the script writers should maybe put Steve and Glenda together” while a different fan added: “@itvcorrie What about Glenda and Steve.”

It comes as Glenda star Jodie Prenger revealed that love is on the cards for her character. Speaking to the Mirror and other press recently, the actress, 44, said: “I don’t know who’s more thrilled – Jodie or Glenda!” However, she kept the identity of Glenda’s mystery man shtum. Could Glenda and Steve be the ideal match?
Meanwhile, Steve actor Simon Gregson recently revealed a new direction for his character, telling Yahoo! News: “I think it would be great if we see Steve having to go down the route of speed dating, online dating”, Simon suggested, although he confessed he would rather see Steve stay single “for a while.”
“Steve could have a full on mid life crisis, maybe we could see him losing weight, changing his appearance, going to the gym”, he added, “it could be a lot of fun and also a great excuse for me to make some changes in real life!”
But with drama always lurking round every corner in Weatherfield, Steve could be set for another whirlwind romance as Simon revealed who he’d like to see his character canoodle with. “I think anyone will do. At this point in Steve’s life he’d be lucky to have anybody”, the actor continued.
