Coronation Street spoilers have teased a new love interest for Steve McDonald next week.

Soap fans will recall that Steve’s estranged wife Tracy Barlow appeared to exit the cobbles earlier this year as she was seen saying her goodbyes to her relatives including dad Ken Barlow and daughter Amy Barlow. Having leaving drinks at The Rovers, she then hugged it out with her nearest and dearest and left the cobbles to start a new life with lover Tommy Orpington in Spain, seemingly for good.

Since then, Steve has had a string of bad luck with dating. However, things looked positive with Demi after they hit it off and Steve was convinced she was ‘The One’. Yet it was soon sadly clear that Steve wasn’t over Tracy or his hatred of Tommy O for stealing his missus and Demi eventually walked out on him.

In spoilers for next week, it appears Steve could be getting a new love interest after a very unlikely spark. In scenes this week, Bobby Crawford was concerned to see Ken Barlow lying at the bottom of the stairs and quickly called an ambulance. Later this week, Ken is dismayed to discover he will need round the clock care whilst he recovers and next week sees the family pull together.

In upcoming scenes, Ken’s family discuss care package options for Ken and wonder how on earth they’re going to fund them. It’s not long until Cassie Plummer listens with interest and tells the family she’ll be Ken’s carer for a quarter the price of a professional. Daniel and Amy think it’s a good idea but Steve is forced to reluctantly agree, leaving Cassie thrilled over her new job venture.

Later in the week, Steve pretends to Ken that Cassie’s a qualified carer and they hired her through an agency. It’s not long until Cassie starts work at No.1, but when she reveals that she’s had no training and only stepped in to help out and save the family a bit of cash, Ken’s quietly furious. Can Cassie convince Ken she’s a good fit for the job and that she was honest with the family all along about having no qualifications?

After the reveal, Cassie calls round the next day to care for Ken and Steve relishes in the fact of informing her that her first task is to cut Ken’s toenails. Cassie is forced to swallow her disgust as she gets on with the job. Later, Ken suggests they go out for a spot of lunch as he enjoys Cassie’s company.

Steve’s daughter Amy is amused at how much Cassie gets under her dad’s skin and it’s not long until she suggests to her father that there’s a spark between him and Cassie, claiming he’s in denial about his attraction to her. Steve firmly denies it and Amy hides her amusement. However, could Amy be onto something and could Cassie be Steve’s next love interest?
