ITV Coronation Street villain ‘confirms’ soap exit as he ditches UK
Coronation Street could be saying goodbye to one of its villains in the coming weeks as the actor shared a snap of himself enjoying a break away from the UK
A Coronation Street villain could soon be leaving the Cobbles for good.
The ITV soap is in the midst of some huge storylines at present, including the discovery that Lauren Bolton is still very much alive after being harrowingly attacked by Joel Deering. Whilst Joel has so far managed to keep this from his loved ones, Lauren is back – and pregnant with his baby – and it won’t be long until the truth about what he has done will be exposed.
Aside from that, Leanne has also found herself caught up in evil Rowan Cunliffe’s grasp. He has been taking advantage of her, under the guise of trying to help her, dragging her into a cult called The Institute. In harrowing scenes recently, people from the cult surrounded her and shouted at her about her failings before she broke down in tears.
We don’t know too much about Rowan’s character’s past just yet but actor Emrhys Cooper warned there was more to come. He said: “There’s more to come. I would love to tell you how long it is gonna go on for… we’ve got a bit of a ride, we’ve got a few twists and turns. He’s orchestrated recruiting Amy. He’s heard she’s vulnerable, she’s lost and she’s got money. She is the perfect victim for the institute and he’s training Leanne to recruit. She is doing a very good job so I would watch out for Leanne.”

On the repercussions, he added: “I think there are gonna be consequences for her actions for sure. Using her relationship with Amy who trusts Leanne, so there will be some repercussions for that but I can’t tell you what. We’re gonna see a new recruit and we’re gonna witness Leanne’s skills, cos she’s been trained up. So it will be interesting to see how she’s using those learned skills to attract Amy. As long as she coughs up I think he’s gonna be happy, money talks.”
Emrhys also hinted his character could stay on the soap for a long time. Speaking about what’s to come, he said: “I think Rowan’s plan is to get a resource centre and take over the Street, but he’s also moving slow and steady. It’s not an overnight thing.”
However, it looks like – at least for now – Rowan has departed the Cobbles as actor Emrhys shared a snap of him ‘home’ in Palm Springs, California as he enjoyed some time away from the unpredictable British weather. Whether Rowan is coming back – or is staying away for good – it remains to be seen, but the danger is still there for poor Leanne.
