ITV Coronation Street villain sparks exit concerns amid dramatic storyline

After wreaking havoc in Coronation Street as Joel Deering, Calum Lill has bagged a new role away from the cobbles, sparking exit concerns amid his explosive downfall.

One Coronation Street star has revealed they've already bagged a new role

Joel Deering’s downfall seems to have begun but Calum Lill may not leave Weatherfield until the end of the year, just in time to take on his latest project.

The actor was welcomed in the ITV soap last year as a new love interest for Dee-Dee Bailey (played by Channique Sterling-Brown) with soap viewers rightly convinced that he was too good to be true.

Duty solicitor Joel was revealed to not only have an estranged wife and child, he also took advantage of wayward teen Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), who fled the cobbles in a desperate attempt to get away from him, leading the authorities to believe she had been murdered.

But following Lauren’s return to the cobbles, with a full baby bump, Joel’s downfall appears imminent and Calum Lill has recently confirmed his time on the Manchester-based programme would be coming to an end by signing up for a new role in panto.

Digital Spy reports that the soap star has landed a new role in Jack & the Beanstalk, a production due to kick off at the Bournemouth Pavilion in early December, 2024.

Speaking about his new role, Calum said: “I’m really looking forward to my Christmas Boo’s in Bournemouth, when I bring my dastardly Fleshcreep to the stage. Bring it on!”

This comes after the actor was caught in a fiery rant during the Euro 2024 final, which saw England confront Spain in Berlin. But inches away from glory, the Three Lions were forced to admit defeat.

After England’s disappointing 2-1 loss, the actor decided to poke some fun at victors Spain as he drowned his sorrows. Taking to his Instagram Stories, Calum shared footage of himself belting out a crude song directed at the Euro 2024 winning squad

Sporting an England jersey, Calum stood atop a table in the shared clip. His caption read: “We didn’t win but Spain you can….” Calum’s chant in the post was “stick your f****** tapas up your a*se”. While Calum attempted to rally the crowd into joining his chant, patrons at the bar seemed to disregard him.

And while drama continues to unfold in Weatherfield between their on-screen alter egos, Lauren actress Cait Fitton took to her Instagram story and explained to her fans: “me and Callum have a great friendship on screen.”

“I think when you’re addressing a serious topic, that’s extremely important. There’s a strong level of trust there and he never fails to make me laugh in between takes.” But how will his exit play out?
