ITV Coronation Street ‘work out’ DS Lisa Swain detail after Joel Deering ‘death’ twist
Coronation Street fans are convinced that they have rumbled a Joel Deering twist involving DS Lisa Swain after she was convinced he has killed himself amid a mysterious new storyline
Coronation Street viewers believe they’ve uncovered a plot twist involving Joel Deering and DS Lisa Swain.
Fans will remember that on Monday night, Dee-Dee Bailey, portrayed by Channique Sterling-Brown, received a strange voicemail from her wicked ex Joel, played by Calum Lill, which DS Swain, played by Vicky Myers, suggested might be a suicide note.
Joel’s wrongdoings were finally exposed in recent episodes, with evidence confirming his heinous acts, resulting in him facing jail time and being dumped by his wife-to-be Dee-Dee, who called off their wedding before receiving the peculiar message.
As the police delved into Joel’s disappearance and the mysterious message, officer Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) disclosed that he had a lead on Joel and had pinpointed his last known location, where they discovered his car parked near a bridge with a folded note on the dashboard, leading DS Swain to fear he may have taken his own life.
However, Dee-Dee was sceptical and didn’t buy into the police’s theory, deciding to visit the crime scene herself. After questioning Joel’s previous victim, Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), about the location image she had tracked of Joel, Dee-Dee conducted her own investigation, discovering a small car concealed in the woods.
Dee-Dee promptly informed DS Swain about her suspicions, who assured her they would investigate. Later, while rummaging through Joel’s flat, DS Swain and Kit stumbled upon the notebook that the wicked solicitor used for his note, reports the Liverpool Echo.
As Dee-Dee continued to argue that Joel had clearly staged everything, Kit received a call revealing that the car did indeed belong to Joel, with his DNA found in the vehicle along with a laptop under the seat.
On Wednesday night, Dee-Dee confided in Kit that she had contacted the wedding venue and the holiday company, revealing that Joel had already claimed back their deposits – a peculiar move if he was planning his own demise.
By Friday night, Dee-Dee made her way to the police station, where she ran into Joel’s father Gus, who complained about being given the runaround by the police. Matters took a turn for the worse when Dee-Dee suggested Joel might have fled, leaving his father shocked and upset at the suggestion, insisting his son was suicidal and could be dead somewhere.
This led DS Swain to intervene, inviting Dee-Dee into a private room. There, Dee-Dee accused DS Swain of brushing her off and reiterated her suspicion that Joel wasn’t dead, even suggesting his father was in on the scheme. However, DS Swain quickly advised the distressed character to accept Joel’s death.
Soap fans on Twitter, now X, were quick to call out DS Swain’s latest gaffe, with one viewer tweeting: “You think after the last time Swain had thought somebody was dead she might learnt something #Corrie”, another fan chimed in: “If Swain believes Joel is dead then he is def alive #corrie” and yet another added: “Oh I see already presuming Joel is dead. Much like they did Lauren. Who they locking up for his death. #Corrie…”
Corrie fans will remember when DS Swain jumped the gun earlier this year, assuming Joel’s victim Lauren was deceased without a body to prove it, leading to Roy Cropper’s wrongful arrest. In a twist of fate, Roy was freed and Lauren turned up very much alive, having been in hiding from Joel all along.
