Viewers were left heartbroken for Gemma on Monday’s episode as she resorted to crime in a desperate bid to make ends meet for her family. Gemma and her husband Chesney have recently been struggling to support their large family and five children. And during Monday’s episode, Gemma was devastated to learn that she had received a £70 parking fine in the post.

However, things went from bad to worse when Gemma later learnt that daughter Carys desperately needed new shoes and to get her feet properly measured. Gemma decided to take Carys to a proper shoe shop to get measured and found the perfect pair of shoes but they were a costly £45.

In a desperate bid, while the shopkeeper was distracted, Gemma decided to grab Carys’ hand and flee the shop without paying. Later, Gemma’s mum Bernie was suspicious and rumbled that her daughter had in fact stolen Carys’ shoes, pointing out she could face prison time due to her past criminal record. Unable to cope with the guilt, Gemma later returned to the shop and dumped the shoes where she was chased by staff but managed to escape.

Just when she thought she had put the incident behind her, Gemma was in for a shock later when one of stepson Joseph Brown’s school friends was picked up by their dad, who turned out to be working in the shop that Gemma stole from, where he warned he was going to call the police.

Taking to social media, soap watchers have pleaded for a positive storyline for the family, even suggesting they could win some money in a bid to solve their financial woes or if nanny Linda, who is grandmother to Joseph, could help them out. One person said: “Wish her and Chesney would get a bit of luck for once”, a different account said: “I hope Linda buys the house for them”, and another suggested: “Why can’t they have some good luck a lottery win”, a different viewer put: “Let them win the lottery” while another agreed adding: “It would be such a great storyline and a positive one for a change.”
