ITV Coronation Street’s David Platt says ‘it’s a bit of a pain’ as he snubs co-star
Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has opened up on the 'silly' rule that both BBC and ITV have when it comes to their stars competing in reality TV shows
Coronation Street icon Jack P. Shepherd has admitted he won’t be ringside to support his fellow soap star Sam Aston as he glides into the Dancing on Ice challenge.
Sam, a stalwart Chesney Brown for over two decades, is set to join the celebrity lineup on the ice next month.
In a candid chat with co-star Colson Smith on their On the Sofa podcast, Jack dished out compliments on Sam’s skating prowess ahead of the contest. However, when quizzed about whether he’d make the trek to Bovingdon studios in Hertfordshire, where the frosty showdown is filmed, Jack confessed: “No I’m not, and I’ve been before. It’s in the middle of nowhere and it’s a bit of a pain to get to.”
Colson chimed in, revealing his own plans to cheer on Sam and reminiscing about his time in the audience supporting ex-Corrie colleague Brooke Vincent, who twirled her way to second place in 2018, just behind former X Factor talent Jake Quickenden.
Initially, Colson had mixed up his dance shows, mistaking Sam’s gig for a stint on Strictly Come Dancing, only to realise it was EastEnders ‘ Jamie Borthwick who was strutting his stuff on the BBC hit. But Jack cleared up the confusion, highlighting a “rule” that keeps stars from crossing between rival networks, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The 36-year-old actor explained: “There’s this rule where ITV and BBC don’t share their artists. It’s a silly rule.”
This unwritten law means that while EastEnders actors can strut on Strictly, Race Across the World, and MasterChef, as Colson pointed out, Corrie’s cast are more likely to be seen braving the jungle in I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, or taking to the ice rink on Dancing on Ice.
Dancing on Ice is set to make a comeback on our telly screens on Sunday, January 12. This year’s contest will showcase a star-studded line-up including Olympic rower Sir Steve Redgrave, telly host Michaela Strachan and soap favourites Sam Aston and Chelsee Healey.
They’ll be sharing the ice with ex-Premier League star Anton Ferdinand, TOWIE’s Dan Edgar and Ferne McCann, and Mollie Pearce from The Traitors.
