ITV Coronation Street’s Gail Platt ‘pregnancy sealed’ as fans ‘expose’ reason for exit

Coronation Street fans have been left convinced that Gail Platt could be pregnant with Jesse Chadwick's baby - and that's why she's set to leave the ITV cobbles

Coronation Street icon Gail Platt might be escaping from Weatherfield for a gobsmacking reason, according to some eagle-eyed viewers.

Fans are starting to suspect Gail might be expecting after reuniting with her old flame Jesse, who’s just rocked up back on the ITV cobbles.

While some fans were clearly joking about the geriatric pregnancy, a few are dead serious – and think the soap could be about to delve into a storyline exploring what motherhood looks like late in life. In the real world, the oldest living mother gave birth to twins at the age of 74.

Erramatti Mangayamma managed to have her girls through IVF with donor eggs over in India.

As for Gail, she’s clocking in at 73 on the show, the same age as the actress who plays her, Helen Worth. So, technically speaking, she could be expecting, especially with Jesse being a younger man at 55, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Fans have been spilling their thoughts all over social media, with one cracking a joke: “Watch out, soon enough [people] will be saying Gail Platt is pregnant!” while another quipped: “Gail Platt pregnancy sealed?”

But some are taking it more seriously, with comments like: “She better not be!” Someone else said on X: “Mark my words she’ll end up pregnant or something and want to raise the baby abroad.”

A fellow tweeter chimed in, saying: “I’d actually love this because they could kill her off-screen and send the baby to David and Shona to raise, or have them appear years later as a surprise.”

Helen recently admitted, disclosing her decision to leave the cobbles: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.”

Explaining further, she added, “I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding. I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew. The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”
