Coronation Street’s Maria Connor bursts into tears next week as she hides a secret from her family.

Only recently on the ITV soap, Dylan and schoolmate Mason have been bullying Maria’s son Liam, who contemplated ending his own life in heartbreaking scenes. Things took an even more disturbing turn recently when it was revealed to a shocked Gary and Maria that Mason had even threatened Liam with a knife.

After the shock bombshell, Gary and Maria took Liam to the police station, where he reported the incident. Later, the police called at Sean’s home, saying they had reason to believe Dylan was hiding a zombie knife that was used in an assault but the knife couldn’t be found.

Dylan, who had been hiding the knife for Mason, lied pretending he knew nothing about it and later Mason ordered Dylan to get the knife and meet up with him. However, it was another one of Mason’s evil tactics as when a nervous Dylan waited, PC Craig Tinker approached, finding the knife in his bag and arresting him on the spot. Dylan pleaded guilty in court, where he was handed a community service order, and has since moved back to London with his mum Violet Wilson.

In upcoming episodes, Maria worries about her son Liam following his harrowing bullying ordeal. In spoilers for next week, David Platt tells Maria that if she doesn’t return to work very soon, Audrey Roberts will look to replace her.

Maria confides in Gary that she’ll lose her job if she doesn’t return soon and although they need the money, she doesn’t feel ready to leave vulnerable son Liam. In a bid to help Maria, Gary approaches Carla Connor and tells her he’s thinking of selling the factory building and he’d like her to have first refusal but Carla admits there’s no way she can afford it. When back at home, Maria waits for Gary to go out and then pulls out a box from her bag and opens it.

Later in the week, a nervous Maria heads off to work leaving Gary to home-school Liam. In the salon, Maria and Audrey discuss hairstyle options with a bride-to-be as Maria takes a sneak peak at an app on her phone which allows her to watch Gary and Liam in the flat through a hidden camera.

As Maria works on the bride’s hair, she stops to check her camera app and starts to panic when Liam disappears to the bathroom. After checking her phone again to find that Liam still hasn’t emerged from the bathroom, Maria grabs her bag and hurries out in a panic. Is Liam okay and will he discover Maria has been watching him on a camera?

Later in the week, Maria bursts into tears and steals herself to tell Audrey about her anxieties as she struggles in the aftermath of Liam’s harrowing bullying ordeal.
