Coronation Street star Antony Cotton, who has played Sean Tully in the ITV soap since 2003, celebrated his 50th birthday on Tuesday and his co-star Tony Maudsley made sure to mark the occasion
Coronation Street’s Tony Maudsley left fans gobsmacked as he disclosed the actual age of his co-star during a celebration on the iconic set of the show.
The actor, renowned for his portrayal of George Shuttleworth in the ITV soap, made sure Antony Cotton didn’t forget his age as he commemorated his 50th birthday on Tuesday (August 5).
Antony, who has been playing Sean Tully for over two decades in the enduring series, was filming on his special day. However, he seemed content, expressing his joy at being surrounded by his Corrie family’s affection.
Antony took to his Instagram Story to share his gratitude, writing: “Thank you for the 1000s of messages and posts and birthday references I’ve had today.
“I’ve spent the day in the place I first walked into 23 years ago – Weatherfield. Thank you to my @coronationstreet family for a really lovely day in the Rovers.”, reports the Manchester Evening News.
“Tomorrow I travel up to Harrogate to be an inspecting officer at the Army Foundation College, which is always one of the highlights of my year.
“Sometimes life is hard, it seems the world is going mad, more than ever, but I feel so lucky to have my family tribe, my Corrie tribe and my military tribe. Life is so much better when we share the load and travel the unsure paths together.”
The birthday lad shared a post of his dressing room door adorned with 50 speed limit-themed signs, joking about ‘old age’. He wrote: “Thank you to @tonymaudsley1 for this welcome on my dressing room door this morning. He adores me. Unconditionally.”
Tony also took to Instagram, posting a selfie from the Corrie green room featuring himself, Antony and their co-stars – Tina O’Brien, Samia Longchambon, Channique Sterling-Brown, Peter Gunn and Jodie Prenger.
Alongside the cheerful photo, he wrote: “Today we were celebrating @antonycotton as he reached the ripe old age of FIFTY! ! ! ! I wasn’t trying to steal his thunder by taking centre stage on the birthday pic…I just had the longest arms to be able to squeeze us all into the selfie!”.
Birthday wishes for Antony quickly poured in, with some expressing surprise at his age. The official Corrie page kicked off the greetings with: “Bunch of icons right there! Happy 50th @antonycotton.”
