Joel Deering’s fatal mistake ‘exposed’ on Coronation Street as exit looms

Joel Deering appears to have made a fatal mistake on Coronation Street tonight – which could lead to his downfall.

The solicitor has now been unmasked as responsible for Lauren Bolton’s attack and possible death. Whilst the viewers know he is to blame, the rest of Weatherfield are still convinced that it’s Nathan Curtis who attacked and murdered Lauren.

However, tonight, it seems like Joel could have made a big mistake – which would seal a downfall for him if it was ever discovered. At the end of tonight’s episode, Joel sat at home with Dee-Dee enjoying a glass of wine, with her none the wiser about who he is.

She was seen fast asleep on his chest and he carefully moved her, before he took the iPad and did some research on Bethany. Having experienced what she did with Nathan, she is now adamant that she wants to bring him down.

Joel had been searching about Bethany and read the article on a normal browser. If he was ever suspected for the crime, and if the police found his search history about Bethany and Nathan, could he be able to explain it away, or would it lead to his arrest?

For now though, Joel is in the best position he could be, with no one suspecting it is him and Nathan currently being represented by him, with Joel encouraging Nathan to plead guilty to the crime despite him not doing it.

Speaking about how Joel ended up representing Nathan – who looks likely to be put away for Lauren’s disappearance – Calum said: “It was a huge stroke of luck. He was the duty solicitor on the day that Nathan’s questioned. He just happens to be in the right place at the right time, and he is sitting there representing a man who is being wrongly accused of the thing that he did.

“He is as shocked as Nathan when the hair in Nathan’s car is proved to be Lauren’s. He doesn’t care about Nathan. This could be the thing that gets Roy out of prison and stops Dee-Dee being so stressed about Roy, because he does feel bad about that as he does adore her, that is the one thing that he struggles with and now it looks like the problem is solved.”

Calum also explained that Joel doesn’t feel guilty over what’s going on with Nathan.

“It doesn’t affect him. I think he can justify everything he’s ever done in his own head. He’s never done anything wrong in his mind. He can justify all of it. Nathan’s a groomer and a rapist and he’s the scum of the earth,” he said.

“But as far as Joel is concerned, he sees himself as someone who helped a girl and then had a sexual relationship and then she pushed his buttons and she got what she had coming in. And his moral compass is absolutely off, he can compartmentalise anything, because Nathan’s done loads wrong it is fine for him to take the rap for this.”
