Late Deirdre’s memory in peril in Coronation Street as Ken makes horrendous decision

Deirdre Barlow confronts Ken Barlow in Coronation Street

The money Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) left Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) is at risk of going to complete waste in Coronation Street.

In recent weeks, Amy has expressed an interest in Rowan Cunliffe’s (Emrhys Cooper) organisation The Institute. It’s been sold by Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) as a company dedicated to self-help and positivity.

For Amy, a young woman who has experienced a lot of trauma over the past few years, she is incredibly attracted to the idea of being a part of something that helps others.

In tonight’s episode, Amy was taken to Leanne’s flat for her first ‘upload’ session, which essentially involves talking about a difficult ordeal from the past.

As Amy started to open up about being raped by a young man called Aaron and the aftermath that followed, she failed to spot Rowan recording her due to having her eyes closed.

Afterwards, Leanne confronted Rowan and assumed this was proof he was doing something dodgy. It absolutely was, but Rowan spun his story and made Leanne believe the recordings were for training purposes, and would be deleted immediately after being used.

At the Barlow household a little while later, Amy decided to talk to Ken Barlow (William Roache) about releasing her inheritance money so she can invest it into Rowan’s business. She tried to say that she loves the prospect of being part of a group dedicated to making other people’s lives better, but Ken wasn’t entirely convinced it was a good idea.

That afternoon, Ken arrived in the pub and asked to look at the business plan for the resource centre, the part of The Institute that Amy’s money will go into.

After reading it over, Ken decided it was good enough after all, and would look into giving Amy her money.

Amy, Leanne and Rowan were all thrilled but of course, it sets Amy and the Barlows up for a complete disaster – given The Institute is completely corrupt.

How will Amy cope when everything inevitably falls apart?
