A major Coronation Street character made a surprise return in recent scenes, but not everyone was pleased to see them.

Poor Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) was not having a good day when Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) asked him to meet her for lunch.

The previous evening he had gone speed dating in the Rovers, but was left disappointed when no one was interested in him.

To make matters worse, when he asked Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) if she wanted to go on another date, she told him that she’d only been so nice to him because she felt sorry for him. Brutal!

Of course, Steve wouldn’t be having so many dating problems if wife Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) hadn’t cheated on him with football superstar Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn) and brought their marriage down in flames.

Determined to get on with things, Steve later met Amy at Preston’s Petals, where she soon realised that her phone was out of battery.

Steve offered to cash up while she went home to grab her charger and she gratefully accepted, though Steve wasn’t alone for long.

He was surprised when none other than Tommy Orpington himself returned to the street and began banging on the door, shouting for Tracy, who wasn’t actually there.

As Steve hid from Tommy, he listened to him plead with Tracy to talk to him before he left for Spain.

After getting no answer, he posted a note beneath the door for her to read, before skulking off.

Steve wasted no time in picking up the note and nosily reading it over.

Will he give it to Tracy, or keep hold of it in order to sabotage her chances of reuniting with Tommy?
