Coronation Street

Major development for Amy as she lands poignant new role in Coronation Street

Amy Barlow in Coronation Street

Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) is to get an exciting new opportunity in Coronation Street next week – and will be drawn into a huge ongoing story.

The legendary character has been on our screens for twenty years, with Elle being the eighth actress to take on the role in 2010.

During her stint she’s dealt with mum Tracy McDonald (Kate Ford) being released from prison and reuniting with her dad Steve (Simon Gregson), been on the run with killer Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) and facing teenage pregnancy.

In more recent years she’s had her heart broken by boyfriend Jacob Hay (Jack James Ryan) who left Weatherfield after being embroiled in his dad’s wicked drug dealing ways and in horrifying scenes, was sexually assaulted by her friend Aaron Sandford (James Craven).

Following her ordeal we’ve seen her volunteer for a number of charity initiatives at the community centre and engage in an anti-spiking protest.

Upcoming scenes will see her juggle a new project alongside her university studies.

Whilst working at the corner shop, Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) encourages her to apply for a position at the student radio station.

Amy is spurred on to take up a presenting role when she realises she could use it as a platform to promote her work with women’s charities.

Later in the week, after securing the position, she confides in neighbour Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) that she needs a guest for her first live interview.

Whilst visiting her son Paul Foreman (Peter Ash), who is currently battling a terminal motor neurone disease diagnosis, she is given food for thought after overhearing him telling some witty stories to his ‘PA’, Hannah.

Will Paul’s MND experiences prove to be the perfect scoop for Amy’s radio gig?
