Michelle Keegan admits heartbreaking reason mum won’t be seen in public with her anymore
Michelle Keegan has shared that her mum, Jackie Anne Thornton, no longer goes out with her in public after she was cruelly trolled when they were pictured together
Michelle Keegan, star of Netflix smash Fool Me Once, has opened up about the hurtful impact of online trolling on her mum, Jackie Anne Thornton.
Speaking to Fearne Cotton on her Happy Place podcast, Michelle revealed that her mum had been targeted after being photographed with her. She said: “When it affects my family, that’s when it’s hurtful.”
She recalled a time when they were pictured leaving a restaurant and her mum read the negative comments in an article. “That really affected my mum, really bad. Now, she won’t walk out of restaurants with me, because of that reason.”

Despite this, Michelle occasionally shares photos with her mum on Instagram. In 2019, she posted a heartfelt tribute to her mum on International Women’s Day, celebrating the strong women in her life.
She wrote: “Here’s to all the strong ladies out there, especially my tribe who have always surrounded me with love, values, strength and determination #happyinternationalwomensday #girlpower #empoweringwomen.”Michelle, who gained fame on Coronation Street as Tina McIntyre, has admitted she felt “embarrassed” after being named “Sexiest Female” 12 times during her time on the soap. The actress’s storylines tackled hard-hitting topics like abortion, murder and surrogacy.
But, it was due to her good looks that she won awards, not for her impressive performances. When chatting with The Observer, she confessed: “It was embarrassing.
“Because I was in a lot of heavy storylines… And then at the end of it, when the accolade was sexiest female, it was so frustrating.”
Even more surprising, Michelle doesnt see herself as sexy! She said: “And the funny thing is, I’m not sexy! I’ve never been sexy! My friends have always laughed about it. Even when I say the word it makes me cringe.”
Currently, she’s starring in the new Netflix thriller series Fool Me Once. Here, she plays the role of widowed Maya Stern, whose life gets turned around when she uncovers dark secrets following her husband’s murder.
She further becomes baffled upon spotting her supposedly dead husband on their baby monitor. The show premiered globally on Netflix on New Year’s Day.
An excited Michelle took to her Instagram to write: “Now streaming. All 8 episodes. Netflix worldwide.” Sending out warm wishes, she added: “Happy New Year to you all @netflixuk @netflix @quaystreetproductions.”
