Rejoice! Coronation Street legend Roy Cropper is out of prison at last – but someone else is wrongly jailed

Roy hugs Nina as he emerges from prison in Coronation Street

It’s been a long time coming and I have been positively seething since he was jailed for Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) murder, but Roy Cropper (David Neilson) is finally back in Coronation Street after being released from prison.

And it’s just in the nick (pun intended, lads) of time as he had a blade to his throat moments before.

Languishing, Roy had all but given up hope on his future, charged with a deplorable crime he didn’t – and could never – commit.

Viewers have now found out that Joel Deering (Calum Lill) was responsible for Lauren’s gruesome death.

Joel’s partner Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) has been repping our Roy, fighting his corner to try and prove that he is being held wrongly.

To make it more complicated, Joel is representing Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper) as a client – and he happens to be the prime suspect taking Roy’s place in the frame.

Nowt’s ever simple, is it?

With Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) having planted Lauren’s hairs in the back of Nathan’s van, he was promptly lifted once more.

Previously jailed for grooming and abuse of young girls in a child sex ring, Nathan has form, so it will be very easy for Joel to execute his downfall, something which no-one will shed a tear of.

Calling is a miscarriage of justice would be off as he deserves all he gets, but there’s no denying that the police have jailed the wrong person in this murder case.

Again!

I’d accept anything to have Roy back in the caff slaving over very reasonably priced bacon baps, as would his loved ones.

With Griff about to stab Roy, having insisted he writes a confession, armed prison guards burst into the cell, saving Roy who then was promptly let go. I hope with a massive apology too.

Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) was there to greet him with a massive hug and we then cut to him sitting in his beloved eatery, but it’s clear that these events have understandably overwhelmed him.

As for Nathan, it’s not looking good.

Joel, who had a relationship with Lauren that could destroy his relationship and career, attacked and recently bludgeoned her before then hiding in plain sight.

As Nathan’s solicitor, what do you reckon he’s going to advise the convicted paedophile when it comes to the plea hearing?

Will he get away with this? And, as for Roy, can he start to slowly rebuild the life he faced losing in more ways than one?
