Rob’s true motives confirmed as he executes terrifying knife plot in Coronation Street
This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.
Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) has managed to convince Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) that he is a reformed character, but the iconic Corrie villain clearly isn’t the saint he’s making himself out to be.
In tonight’s episode, Rob explained to Bobby how he had found God in prison, after struggling to deal with his guilt over Tina McIntyre’s murder.
He also revealed that he was willing to donate a kidney to ailing sister Carla Connor (Alison King), much to Bobby’s relief.
However, their discussion about the logistics of the surgery was interrupted by Matty Radcliffe (Seamus McGoff) causing a scene, after his girlfriend failed to turn up for a visit.
Without warning, Matty pulled out a blade and grabbed one of the prison guards, holding the room hostage.
Rob attempted to appeal to his better nature, by explaining how religion had helped him to cope with his guilt, but Matty remained unconvinced.
Instead, he let go of the guard and grabbed Bobby, threatening to kill him.
Thankfully, Rob jumped in just in time and tackled Matty, saving Bobby’s life in the process.
When Bobby returned to the hospital, he filled a concerned Carla and Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) in on the dramatic events, as well as sharing the news that Rob was a changed man and willing to donate a kidney.
Back at the prison, it soon became clear that Matty’s outburst had been part of a pre-meditated plan, as Rob paid him a visit in his cell.
He promised him a reward when he returned from solitary confinement, before applauding his performance.
