Roy Cropper’s (David Neilson) days of suffering could be about to end in Coronation Street as one of his fellow neighbours comes to the rescue with an altered statement that could secure his freedom.

Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll), as viewers know, is largely to blame for the cafe owner’s incarceration after he pointed the finger at him, telling DS Swain (Vicky Myers) of his theories about Roy’s role in Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) suspected murder.

Roy was subsequently arrested and charged for the crime he didn’t commit and Monday’s (April 15) offering of the ITV soap will see his bail hearing arrive, with Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) making a strong case to the judge to allow Roy to return home.

But despite her pleas, Roy is refused bail, meaning he will be held in police custody until the trial – whenever that may be!

Bobby is left with food for thought after what takes place in courtroom and, feeling responsible, he goes to DS Swain to change his statement.

The above clip, taken from Wednesday’s (April 16) edition of the serial drama, sees Swain confused by the newcomer’s changed version of events, with Bobby claiming that he saw someone – who absolutely wasn’t Roy – outside Lauren’s flat prior to her disappearance.

Bobby claims that this man was threatening and that he didn’t see his face. However, he strengthens his story with some detail, revealing that the perpetrator was wearing a coat with a fur-trimmed hood.

DS Swain is sceptical, knowing full well that he’s simply trying to get Roy off the hook.

Her suspicions are presumably correct, given Bobby’s sudden change of heart, and the detective is quick to hammer home that perverting the course of justice is a serious offence.

Will Bobby persevere? If so, will his new statement be enough to get Roy out of prison and back to the eponymous street where he belongs?
