‘Shell of her former self’ rant Coronation Street fans as they blast soap bosses for ‘ruining’ character
Fans also feel like the character's big storyline 'never happened'.
CORONATION Street fans have blasted bosses for turning a character into a ‘shell of her former self’.
The ITV soap has had a number of big storylines in the past year including Stephen Reid’s killing spree, Daisy Midgeley’s stalking hell and subsequently, Ryan Connor’s acid attack.
However, some Coronation Street viewers have felt that the aftermath of the latter two storylines hasn’t been dealt with in the right way, considering the impact soap bosses wanted it to have.
Some also felt the way Daisy – played by Charlotte Jordan – has been used in the soap hasn’t done the character or its star any favours.
Writing on a fan forum, one viewer raged: “It’s been all but forgotten! It’s hard to even believe Daisy has endured such a traumatic experience, all she cares about is that damn pub!
“The absence of Ryan proves the writers can’t be bothered to continue with the aftermath nor the make-up team the prosthetics.
“The acid attack was the biggest story of 2023, yet the most prominent character involved with the story is nowhere to be seen and the other doesn’t appear to be phased by the event.”
Another added: “For what was meant to be a storyline that sparked “national conversation,” its insane how it feels like the acid attack never happened at all.
“The other day, they had Daisy talk about setting up an are in the Rovers to encourage influencing with a gleeful smile. Obviously people get over things but what a strange line to give her.”
Meanwhile a third despaired at the development of Daisy’s character, writing: “The show bosses have no idea what to do with Daisy. Almost sad to watch.”
A fellow viewer replied: “I can’t say I’m surprised. They screwed up the stalking aftermath, ruined her in the acid attack aftermath, and created a shell of her former self in the affair aftermath.
“She’s one of the those soap characters that went from story to story with no direction or development and burnt out.
“I’d barely realised she was still on the show. Daisy feels like a failed experiment at forcing a new Deirdre/Carla/whoever [producer Iain] MacLeod was thinking.”
