Soaps biggest 2025 storylines: EastEnders 40th, Emmerdale April twist and Corrie stunt

The soaps have a big year ahead, with Emmerdale, EastEnders and Coronation Street all airing huge twists and plots.

They all start the new year with a bang too, with dramatic scenes lined up for the first week of January. But beyond January there’s some massive moments planned as all of the soaps feature huge storylines.

It’s EastEnders’ 40th anniversary in February, and from spoilers and filming pictures it’s clearly going to be explosive. Boss Chris Clenshaw and some of the cast have teased the big week, while two storylines have also been confirmed.

Over on Corrie, there’s a horror stabbing storyline and a massive stunt with serious consequences. There’s a downfall, a diagnosis, some romance, a baby twist and plenty more too – as teased by boss Kate Brooks.

Meanwhile over on Emmerdale, there’s exits, a death, bombshells to be revealed and a special episode featuring much of the cast ahead. There’s also a plot that’s set to run for at least 10 months, as a mystery surrounding a teenager’s disappearance leads to heartbreak. Here are the biggest plots unfolding in 2025…

Emmerdale

Emmerdale has yet to release a full plan for 2025 like the other soaps, but there’s some big plots ahead. Ruby Miligan has yet to expose her father Anthony Fox for sexually abusing her as a teenager, but the walls could be closing in on him as he continues to cause havoc.

Amid some fans predicting a whodunnit, what we do know is that he gets on the wrong side of Cain Dingle after learning of his fling with Ruby. But Cain is onto him, and Chas Dingle could be too as Ruby finds herself confiding in her sister-in-law over New Year.

So as 2025 kicks off, it’s surely only a matter of time before Ruby breaks her silence and Anthony is exposed. With this, could Caleb and Moira find out their spouses Ruby and Cain have betrayed them?

Elsewhere, the horrifying April Windsor plot will continue as she remains missing. After a cast member told The Mirror that the plot would run on for around 10 months, things will escalate with secrets about April’s life being unearthed.

There’s turmoil ahead for her dad Marlon Dingle, while it also becomes apparent she wanted to run away – ahead of us finding out who was driving the car she was seen getting into recently. Elsewhere, there’s a special episode for Jacob Gallagher as he begins his A&E placement, and his stressful studies will no doubt pave the way for storylines ahead.

We have the confirmed exits of Brenda Walker and Leyla Harding too, amid reports Leyla is being killed off. We also have the fallout to Will Taylor’s death with accusations made at Kim Tate and Joe Tate. Joe’s own dark secret is also set to come to light following his return, amid a recent scene sparking concern.

Coronation Street

It’s going to be a massive year next year on the cobbles. Kate Brooks recently spilled to The Mirror all about some huge twists ahead, with plenty of exits, twists, returns and some new faces.

The Platts face life without Gail Platt after she left Weatherfield on Christmas Day. David Platt continues to spiral over his wife’s fling and recent events, and things only get worse when he’s threatened to pay back the money he stole from Harvey Gaskell.

Things reach a point where there’s a huge stunt with serious consequences for those closest to David, while it’s been reported a devastating fire will tear through the family’s house. David faces a downfall with more than one character out to get him.

There will also likely be the start of Debbie Webster’s sad dementia storyline next year, while her brother Kevin Webster is set to be diagnosed with testicular cancer. The diagnosis puts a strain on his marriage to Abi Franklin, who will struggle to cope in the fallout to a horrifying stabbing in the coming weeks.

Said stabbing will see teenager Mason Radcliffe attacked by his own brothers, with his fate yet to be confirmed. The hard-hitting knife crime plot will impact multiple residents.

Kate has revealed across the year we can expect some surprising exits, and more than one departure, while she also promised there would be a number of big returns to the show – as villain Rob Donovan makes his own shocking comeback. Kevin and Debbie’s half-brother is also set to debut this year, while a new family will also make their mark in Weatherfield – with possible links to Chesney Brown and Kit Green.
