The Platts reeling in shock development ahead of Gail’s end in Coronation Street

The Platt clan in Coronation Street aren’t quite sure what to make of Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson).

The character returned suddenly this week and at first, Eileen (Sue Cleaver) believed her ex was back in town to see her. To her surprise, it was then confirmed Jesse had actually returned to see Gail (Helen Worth).

While this has been going on, the family have been busy trying to raise enough money to pay for Bethany’s (Lucy Fallon) medical fees. In upcoming episodes of the ITV soap, Sarah (Tina O’Brien) accuses Adam (Sam Robertson) of stealing Damon’s (Ciaran Griffiths) cash he was planning on giving to the family.

Also next week, David (Jack P Shepherd) feels apprehensive when Jesse offers to lend a hand with looking over the prospect of buying Number 8.

Jesse’s strange behaviour continues when he declares he wants to spend time with Gail’s children. Curious as to what he’s up to, Sarah, David and Nick (Ben Price) meet him for lunch in the pub.

There, the siblings quiz Jesse on his finances and he reveals he’s expecting cash from the sale of his marital home.

David advises Sarah to forget about Damon’s money but they’re distracted due to Jesse running out of the pub.

But what is he up to?

‘What I like is the way he’s changed’, star John Thomson said, pondering over the newly returned Jesse.

‘The old adage says, never work with children and animals, well Jesse was a children’s entertainer that had a talking parrot! He was also a spark so I always thought that might be the end of him, disposed of in an electrical accident, but that never manifested and it was actually his romantic misdemeanours that led to his exit. So it’s quite a relief not to have to deal with children and animals this time.

‘He always had a bit of a cowboy, country and western type look, his name is Jesse James Chadwick. But he’s smartened himself up a bit now, his look has changed and I’ve got rid of those boots that really hurt me so that’s a relief!

‘He’s still got a great sense of humour though and there’s some nice comedy to be played. It’s a joy to be given stuff that’s sometimes dramatic and sometimes humorous, it’s really nice to get to play both sides.’
