Tragic admission as popular Coronation Street favourite reveals their partner has died
Coronation Street viewers have come to know DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) as the no-nonsense detective in charge of Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) murder case, though we are soon set to see another side of her as she opens up to a Corrie legend.
DS Swain’s investigation has seen her spend a lot of time with Carla Connor (Alison King) recently, especially after Roy Cropper’s (David Neilson) arrest.
Roy became the prime suspect in the investigation when it transpired that he had been the last person to see Lauren alive.
Not only that, but he had given her flat a deep clean following her disappearance as a favour to best mate Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman).
With the evidence stacked against him, Roy was arrested and charged, much to the horror of his close family and friends.
Desperate to get him off the hook, Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) gave police a false statement, which Carla went along with during her subsequent interviews with DS Swain.
Unfortunately, this caused a huge rift between her and Roy, who was horrified that she had lied and potentially harmed the investigation into Lauren’s real killer.
In upcoming scenes, Carla is defensive when Swain asks why she’s fallen out with Roy, and is quick to close the conversation down.
However, that isn’t the end of their interaction, as Carla soon overhears Swain arguing on the phone with her daughter, Betsy.
Sensing Swain’s stress, Carla offers a listening ear, as the detective finally opens up about her family life.
She reveals that her partner tragically passed away, and her daughter has been struggling with her grief ever since.
In a surprising turn of events, Carla soon offers Betsy some work experience at the factory.
Could this be the start of a new friendship for Carla and Swain – or perhaps something more?
Actress Vicky Myers has previously revealed that DS Swain is gay, with fans already keen to see her and Carla get together.
‘I think she perhaps has seen somebody that’s caught her eye but at the moment she’s far too busy with focusing on this investigation and her career and being a single mum and juggling her home life as well with her teenage daughter,’ Vicky previously revealed.
Recent scenes saw Carla discover that ex-husband Peter Barlow had already moved on with a new girlfriend, so is Carla ready to start dating again?
