Carla Connor rejects major Coronation Street character of the past for Christmas with Lisa Swain
Carla Connor (Alison King) has made a huge commitment in Coronation Street, which has involved ditching her best friend over Christmas.
Carla recently made things official with DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) after months of trying to avoid their feelings, and in tonight’s episode they decided to make the most of the Chariot Square Hotel’s couples spa deals.
However, when hotel owner Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) spotted the women together, she enthused about how nice it was to see friends enjoying the treatments.
When Lisa attempted to correct Debbie on the status of their relationship, Carla interrupted, leaving Lisa hurt.
Following their pamper session, Lisa couldn’t help but make a snarky comment about them being ‘just mates’, to which Carla explained that she didn’t want their relationship being revealed through gossip from Debbie.
Later, when Carla affectionately kissed Lisa’s neck, the detective assured her that she didn’t have to try and prove herself.
It was then that Carla explained that she would prefer to keep their relationship quiet until they were both ready to reveal it, but agreed to tell the world if it was what Lisa wanted.
Carla appeared grateful when Lisa agreed to take things at her pace, and further thrilled her when she revealed her plans for Christmas.
As Carla explained that Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) was heading over to Ireland to stay with Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) over the festive period, she admitted that she had also been invited.
However, she revealed that she would prefer to spend the holidays with Lisa – a proposition she was quick to accept.
Lisa was happy to go along with her plan to get a takeaway and laze about in their pyjamas. Sounds fantastic – but will their Christmas go to plan?
‘They are happy during the Christmas period,’ producer Kate Brooks promised. ‘Carla initially flinches a little bit at the idea of people gossiping, and it’s not about sexuality but she’s a bit unsure.
‘But once she realises everyone is absolutely fine about it, then it’s all systems go, so Christmas will be when they really commit to each other, when they declare how they feel each other and when they stop circling each other and touching each other’s hair!’
