Coronation Street’s Gail Platt star Helen Worth’s real-life love life including two marriages
Corrie legend Helen Worth, famed for her role as Gail Platt since 1974, is set to bid farewell to the cobbles, with her character’s final dramatic scenes scheduled for Christmas Day. The storyline sees Gail hoping to tie the knot with new flame Jesse (played by John Thomson), but as expected in Weatherfield, it’s not all smooth sailing.
Gail’s love life has been nothing short of a rollercoaster on the Street, and if she does say ‘I do’ to Jesse, he’ll be hubby number seven, making her the most-wed woman in Corrie history.
Off-screen, Helen’s romantic life is much more stable. She’s happily hitched to teacher Trevor Dawson, who’s seven years her junior.
The pair hit it off instantly at a mutual friend’s 90th birthday bash and haven’t looked back since. Helen was all smiles talking about her beau on This Morning in 2021, saying: “I met Trevor about 10 years ago and I just thank my lucky stars really. He’s just gorgeous.”
The couple’s wedding bells rang out in 2012 at St James’s Church in London, with a host of Corrie celebs in attendance, reports Lancs Live. Reflecting on her big day, Helen shared: “It’s been the most fantastic day, it has exceeded all expectations. We are thrilled that so many of our friends and family could be here to celebrate with us.”
Before Helen tied the knot with Trevor, she was linked in matrimony to Michael Angelis, famed for voicing Thomas the Tank Engine. The duo said ‘I do’ in 1991 but their love derailed by 2001 after Michael confessed to cheating on Helen.
It wasn’t until snaps of him with his secret flame were set to hit the press in 1995 that Michael owned up to his affair. Looking back at those heart-wrenching moments, Helen shared with the Mirror: “The pictures were about to be published and he knew he had to tell me fast. He just said he was having an affair. I went through every emotion. I was hurt. Then angry. So angry. I tried to tell myself it wasn’t happening.”
They gave their love another go but finally chuckled in the towel in 2001 upon new incriminating snaps of Michael and his other woman, Jennifer Khalastchi, coming to light. Post-divorce, Helen and Michael kept a chummy rapport until he passed away in 2020.
