Corrie fans reckon they’ve sussed out Eileen Grimshaw’s departure plot, after the bombshell that Sue Cleaver is bowing out.
After portraying no-nonsense Eileen Grimshaw for 25 years, Sue confirmed this week that she’s hanging up her Weatherfield coat and bidding adieu to the iconic cobbles.
Sue’s alter ego has been at the centre of serious Weatherfield drama over the years, tangled in storylines from her nuptials to psycho Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre) to her epic squabbles with Gail Platt (Helen Worth).
But now, Sue’s confirmed she’s waving goodbye to the hit ITV show although fans will catch her stirring the pot until late spring. Additionally, it’s been assured that Eileen won’t meet a grim fate, so there’s always a chance she’ll hop back to raise hell another day, reports Lancs Live.
Naturally, Corrie aficionados are gutted about Sue’s impending soap adieu. They reckon theyve cracked the code on how Eileen will part ways with the famed Street and signs point to drama ahead.
On a Coronation Street Facebook fan group, dissecting Sue’s exit news, one viewer lamented: “She’s more just of a background character now, Eileen’s not had a storyline in years. Still gutted though.”

Another joined the speculating brigade, suggesting their take on her final scene: “I think she will split up with George and go live with Jason in Thailand.” A second viewer chimed in: “I’ve been thinking for a while that they will split up.” A third fan blurted out: “Same but I hope George doesn’t leave as well! “.
Corrie viewers will remember that Eileen’s current beau is the funeral director George Shuttleworth, played by Tony Maudsley. Meanwhile, her son Jason (portrayed by Ryan Thomas) was last seen in Weatherfield back in 2016, waving goodbye to the cobbles after 16 memorable years to start afresh across the globe.

Sue Cleaver, who’s stepping away from the iconic TV street, spilled the beans to The Sun on Sunday, saying: “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street.” She added: “The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly.”
A source confided to the tabloid that Sue adores her time at ‘Corrie’ but reckons it’s the right moment to spread her wings and search for new challenges.
