Carla unimpressed after ‘manipulative’ suicide claim in Coronation Street

Carla Connor (Alison King) is facing a lifetime of dialysis if she can’t find a donor kidney in Coronation Street, but so far she hasn’t been enamoured by the options.

Having refused to accept a kidney from Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) or Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll), Carla was happy to wait until one was available from the donor register.

However, her family were desperate to see her get the treatment she needed, which led Bobby to take drastic measures and visit killer dad Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) in prison.

Though Rob initially outright refused to entertain the idea of donating a vital organ to his estranged sister, he later had a change of heart, citing his new-found religious beliefs for his sudden generosity.

When Bobby returned to the hospital with the news, informing Carla that Rob was a changed man, she refused to accept it, and revealed that she’d rather spend the rest of her life on dialysis than take Rob’s kidney.

In tonight’s episode, Bobby remained persistent, though Carla has never been one to back down.

With the factory boss refusing to believe that her brother could change, Bobby insisted that she go and see for herself.

Perhaps unwisely, Carla snuck out of the hospital and did exactly that.

It didn’t take long for the pair to get down to business, with Carla admitting that she wasn’t willing to take Rob’s kidney because she didn’t trust him.

When she revealed that she had heard he’d found God, and asked him when that sudden change occurred, Rob revealed that it had been around a year ago.

He explained that he had been in a dark place, and had even considered taking his own life. However, his cellmate had introduced him to religion and Rob had found it comforting.

He explained that he believed God wanted him to help Carla, before apologising for not reaching out during her psychosis or her ordeal with Stephen Reid.

While Carla appreciated the apology, she confessed that she didn’t believe he was a changed man, and still felt the same about accepting his kidney.

In a last ditch attempt to win her round, Rob insisted that he wasn’t just offering it for her sake, but also for Bobby’s, as he relied on her so heavily.

Later, at the hospital, Bobby and Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) were left disappointed when Carla admitted that she didn’t believe a word Rob had said.

However, they were soon cheered up when Carla finally relented, and revealed that she wouldn’t stop Rob from being tested to see if he is a match.

Will Carla get the kidney she desperately needs, or is she set to face more hurdles?
