Coronation Street star quits Weatherfield for new life after 11 years on Cobbles
Coronation Street star Yasmeen Nazir’s final scenes have been revealed.
Yasmeen will exit the Cobbles next week in sad scenes, as Shelley King quits her role on the ITV soap. Yasmeen has been a fan favourite on the show for over a decade, leading huge storylines including the heartbreaking abuse at the hands of her husband Geoff Metcalfe, who was played by actor Ian Bartholomew.
In sad scenes set to air next week, Yasmeen decides to leave the street behind. She tells her granddaughter Alya that she has sold her half of Speed Daal, as Alya comes face to face with her new business partner.

There are also emotional scenes when Yasmeen and Alya say goodbye to one another. However, any sadness is short lived when Alya arrives at work the next day to find out the menu has been changed. Fuming, Alya rips up the menu and attempts to tell the new business partner that she knows best – but what will they say?
Yasmeen makes a sad exit from the Cobbles
Yasmeen’s departure comes amid a string of exits for the ITV soap, with Shelley keen to explore new projects.
“This will be another blow for fans of the show, as Yasmeen is a much-loved character who’s part of the fabric of Corrie. She’s had some huge storylines since she joined the soap in 2014, and she’ll be sorely missed by cast and crew. It’s understood she is leaving so she can explore other projects,” a source told The Sun at the time.
However, insiders have insisted there is no reason for fans to worry – and the soap will long continue into the future.
“Corrie’s vision for the future on the show has secured its place on screens for years to come,” a soap insider told us, “Fans can ignore any idea that within a decade the soap will be gone, because it’s in no way on the brink of collapse. There’s some really exciting twists ahead for our favourite characters and couples, with a massive stunt that will no doubt bring the drama, as well as some hard-hitting storylines bringing some of soap’s biggest characters to the forefront.
“It really is a case of one door closes and another opens in that some familiar faces will be leaving, but others will be back – and the new faces could be just what the show needs. There’s so much ahead so the idea the end of Corrie is in sight is bonkers.”
The comments came before it was revealed Coronation Street would move to a half an hour each weekday broadcast, rather than the three one hour slots on Monday, Wednesday and Friday that it has now.
