A CORONATION Street star has slammed the soap’s new love triangle storyline by saying ‘give it a rest’.
The Sun exclusively revealed Abi Webster (Sally Carman) will embark on a steamy affair with brother-in-law Carl (Jonathan Howard).
Carl – the mentioned but never before seen half-brother of Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) – debuted on the cobbles last week.
Taking to social media, former Corrie actor Louis Emerick has hit out at the affair plotline.
He wrote on X: “#Soaps: Kev/Abbie and The brother!
“How many times dya reckon we’ve had that #eternaltriangle, a couple, a sibling shows up..affair starts..come on producers.
“Please give That story a rest! In all my circle of friends thru all the yrs, I’ve Never known That situ happen!”
Louis, 64, appeared as Mike Thornberry in several episodes during 2018.
However, he is perhaps better-known for his roles in Brookside and Hollyoaks.
A Corrie source previously said: “It’s the ultimate betrayal, sleeping with your husband’s hunky, younger brother but Abi just can’t help herself.”
The source added: “Carl arrives in Weatherfield this spring and is going to turn quite a few heads.
“He’s a good looking ladies man and gets quite a lot of attention. But while he can have any woman he wants – it’s his brother’s wife Abi who he goes after.
“The pair sleep together and although Abi feels guilty she just can’t help herself.
“The chemistry between the two is off the scale and things are about to get even sexier on Britain’s most famous street.”
Discussing his character’s antics, Jonathan said: “He’s maybe a little bit selfish, especially between his trousers sometimes!”
Revealing himself as Corrie fan, the actor added: “I was a super fan of Corrie as a kid, I watched it every single night, a lot of my childhood memories are growing up watching the street so it feels kind of surreal to be on the cobbles.
“And I play Kevin Webster’s brother. I remember watching Kevin Webster when I was a teenager and then to suddenly be doing scenes with him is surreal.”
Carl’s arrival in Weatherfield comes as his brother Kevin faces a battle with testicular cancer.
Meanwhile, his sister Debbie is set to be killed off in a heartbreaking young onset dementia storyline.
How will the Webster clan fare in the coming weeks and months?
