Corrie set for ‘UK soap first’ with throuple storyline involving Bethany Platt

Coronation Street is no stranger to tackling ground-breaking subjects - and now it’s been claimed it could be set to introduce a throuple storyline - involving Bethany Platt

Coronation Street could be set to make history with its first-ever throuple on the famous cobbles.

The long-running programme, which premiered way back in 1960, is no stranger to making TV history. Over the years, it has aired countless topical and taboo storylines, provided plenty of laughs and drama and tackled many ground-breaking subjects.

For over 60 years, viewers have watched an array of storylines – from affairs and serial killers – play out on TV screens. And with the soap recently turning 63, it’s clearly showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Over in the soap recently, fans will recall how Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) recently rocked up to the cobbles. And it didn’t take long for her to shack up with ex-Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).

At the time Daniel was heartbroken after finding out fiancé Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) had cheated on him with Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott). Daisy regretted the affair though and hoped to win Daniel back.

But Daniel was quick to move on to Bethany. Since then, Daisy has also reunited with Ryan – but it’s clear she’s longing to get back with Daniel. Now, amid the love triangle on the cobbles, it’s been claimed that the show could be set to introduce a UK soap’s first ever throuple.

Daily Star has quizzed one of the world’s most popular artificially intelligent “creative” tools Gemini, to see if a throuple could happen on Corrie with Bethany, Daisy and Daniel. The program responded that it is likely as the soap “has a history of pushing boundaries and tackling social issues.”

Gemini then listed a few reasons including “groundbreaking representation.” It said; “Coronation Street would be the first UK soap to feature a throuple. This could provide much-needed positive representation for polyamorous relationships on mainstream television.”

It also pointed out “exploring modern relationships.” The system went on: “Polyamory is becoming more accepted, and the show could explore the complexities of navigating a consensual, non-monogamous relationship.”

A third reason is for “drama and conversation.” Gemini said: “A throuple storyline would undoubtedly create drama and talking points among viewers. It could spark conversations about love, relationships, and societal expectations.”
