ITV Coronation Street’s Cassie Plummer star makes shock revelation after dark twist

Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has made an unexpected revelation after Cassie Plummer’s sinister storyline.

Claire first graced the cobbles as Cassie in 2023, and was introduced as Evelyn Plummer’s (Maureen Lipman) daughter and Tyrone Dobbs’ (Alan Halsall) mother.

Cassie had been acting as Ken Barlow’s (William Roache) unofficial carer, but with a dark ulterior motive. She was secretly drugging the ITV stalwart to make him sleep, whilst stealing his credit card for lavish spending sprees.

Ken eventually found out about Cassie’s scheme and confronted her in February, revealing to his family how she’d been making him ill. This led to Cassie’s arrest as she attempted to make a swift exit from the street, reports Leicestershire Live.

While appearing on Good Morning Britain on Friday (June 20), Claire expressed her relief that the revenge plotline has finally concluded.

“Well, I’m just glad I’m not poisoning a national treasure anymore. That’s a bit of a relief, I can go out now,” she shared with hosts Kate Garraway and Adil Ray.

In forthcoming episodes, Tracy McDonald (Kate Ford) will be taken aback by the news of her estranged husband Steve’s (Simon Gregson) relationship with Cassie.

“I’m very, very lucky they’ve kind of paired Cassie off with Steve, and I love Simon Gregson. He’s a joy, that guy just makes me laugh… he’s a brilliant comedic actor, really funny,” Claire elaborated on GMB.

“I’m lucky because also Tracy Barlow, great actor as well, there’s great people I’m working with.”

She went on to say: “I’ve been wanting to get back into acting for a while, and to get into an iconic show working with greats like Maureen Lipman, Alan Halsall, just working with really great people.”

As Steve urges Tracy to review the divorce papers next week, Tracy has another plan in mind and attempts to divert his attention with a surprise birthday party.

A source revealed to Digital Spy: “Cassie is the worst person on the Street that Steve could hook up with.

“Plus, now that Tracy’s ex Tommy O is well and truly out of the picture, it’s clear she’s been dragging her feet on the divorce. Tracy has a habit of wanting what she can’t have, so could this change her mind over her feelings for Steve?”
