Coronation Street‘s Tim Metcalfe is dragged into a shocking crime next week when his cousin Richie is charged with murder. Having only just reconnected with his relative, Tim is stunned when the awful allegation is made – and there are huge consequences for him and Sally…

“Tim thought he and Richie would be catching up over a pint, not a table in a prison visiting room,” explains our Corrie insider.

“When Richie is accused of killing his wife, his young daughter Lucy has to stay with the Metcalfes. Tim’s blast from the past is about to cause big problems for his future.”

At the start of the week, Richie wakes up after his boozy session with Tim the night before, and gets a frosty text from his wife Rachel. Telling Tim he’s in trouble for staying out all night, sheepish Richie goes to face the music.

Later that day, Richie returns with a packed bag, revealing Rachel has thrown him out and he needs somewhere to stay. Sally reluctantly agrees to take him in for one more night, but only because Tim railroads her into it.

The following morning, Tim encourages his crushed cousin to make amends with Rachel, so Richie heads off. When Tim realises Richie’s left his wallet behind, he heads to his house to return it – and walks into a nightmare…

“Richie answers the door covered in blood with a dazed expression on his face,” reveals our spy. “Bemused Tim takes a look inside and can’t believe what he sees – then he dials 999…”

The following morning, Tim and Sal have barely slept a wink, and soon receive confirmation from Lisa that Richie has been charged with Rachel’s murder – though he’s claiming it was self-defence. Not only that, Richie and Rachel’s teenager daughter Lucy has had to be taken into emergency care.

Social services are soon calling Sally with the news that Lucy’s foster home has fallen through, and they’re struggling to place her somewhere else.

Wanting to step up for this poor kid, Tim tells the authorities she can stay with them – without consulting his other half.

The concerned social worker tells Tim and Sally they have to be super sensitive with troubled Lucy, who is suffering with severe grief and trauma following her mother’s grisly demise. Lucy settles in, but when Sally goes to her room to tell her that tea’s ready, she gets a shock…

“Lucy has done a runner,” reveals our insider. “Stressed Sal dashes out with Tim to track her down, and thankfully they find her at the bus stop. They convince her to come back, but it’s clear Lucy is feeling unsettled.”

Despite their success fostering the Michaelis kids, Sally and Tim’s parenting skills are really put to the test as they look after Lucy. The girl starts having night terrors, and an attempt to make friends with the local kids ends in disaster when she clashes with Lily.

Can Lucy settle into life on the Street? And is her dad really a cold-blooded killer, or was there more to this than meets the eye?
