After decades as one of Britain’s most recognisable television stars, Davina McCall is preparing for a future that looks very different from the fast-paced career that made her a household name.

The beloved presenter has reportedly decided that she will retire in just five years, saying recent health battles have completely changed the way she views life, success and the future.

For more than 20 years, Davina has been at the heart of British television, fronting some of the country’s biggest entertainment and factual programmes, from launching the very first series of Big Brother to presenting Long Lost Family and The Masked Singer.

But according to those closest to her, the next chapter will be about something far more important than television.

Her husband, celebrity hairstylist Michael Douglas, revealed that the couple have made a joint decision to spend just five more years working before stepping away to enjoy the life they have built together.

“We’ve got five years of hard work left in us,” Michael explained.

“Then it’s time to relax and enjoy everything we’ve worked so hard for. At some point you have to ask yourself—when do you actually stop and enjoy it all?”

His comments reflect a major shift in priorities for the couple, who have both come to appreciate how precious good health and time together truly are.

The decision follows several incredibly challenging years for Davina.

Last year, the television favourite underwent surgery after doctors discovered breast cancer. Fortunately, the lump was found at a very early stage and successfully removed before it had spread.

“It was very, very small, so I was incredibly lucky,” Davina previously shared. “I’m so relieved it was removed before it spread.”

Her breast cancer diagnosis came after another frightening health scare in 2024, when routine medical checks uncovered a rare colloid cyst, leading to surgery to remove a benign brain tumour.

The experience became a turning point, encouraging Davina to slow down and rethink what matters most.

Amid those life-changing challenges came one of her happiest moments. Earlier this year, Davina and Michael celebrated their marriage with a second wedding celebration at their Kent home, months after officially tying the knot following seven years together.

Now, with her health restored and a renewed outlook on life, Davina isn’t saying goodbye just yet. Instead, she is embracing what she sees as the final chapter of an extraordinary television career before stepping into a well-earned retirement focused on family, happiness and making the most of every moment.

After everything she has overcome, Davina’s biggest ambition is no longer simply building a remarkable career—it’s making sure she has time to truly enjoy the life she worked so hard to create.
