Argentina players show off ‘The Falkland Islands are Argentinian’ banner after defeating England at 2026 FIFA World Cup

Argentina had the last laugh as they picked up a comeback 2-1 win over England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinal.
They rode on late goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez to reach their second-straight World Cup finale.
After the end of the match, as the players celebrated the win, an interesting thing happened on the pitch.
Argentina midfielder Giovanni Lo Celso managed to find a banner that had the words ‘LAS MALVINAS SON ARGENTINAS’ written on it.
He brandished it with Nicolas Otamendi and a few more players, before leaving it on the Mercedes-Benz Arena pitch.
This basically translates to ‘The Falkland Islands are Argentinian,’ a referance to the 1982 Falkland Islands war between the Argentine military and Britain forces – which Britain won.
