Debbie’s Future on the Street Looks Bright

Coronation Street has finally put fans’ fears to rest — Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Despite recent speculation following her dementia diagnosis, show boss Kate Brooks has confirmed that Debbie will remain a major part of the soap’s storylines for years to come.

At a recent Corrie press event, Brooks revealed that Debbie is set to take centre stage in an upcoming wedding storyline — one that promises to be as heartwarming, chaotic, and unmistakably Debbie as the character herself.

“Debbie’s got ages and ages!” Brooks said. “We’re not galloping through her story at all. We love Debbie. She’s brilliant — so funny, so full of life and joy.”

A Joyful Wedding and a Dementia Choir

Debbie’s next big chapter will revolve around her romance with Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan). After his public proposal earlier this year, the couple’s wedding will air towards the end of 2025 — and it’s being described as a “joyous” affair filled with laughter and classic Corrie humour.

“It’s going to be a really gorgeous, joyful wedding,” Brooks teased. “It smacks of Debbie being lovable and a bit out there!”

Alongside her upcoming nuptials, Debbie’s passion project — the dementia choir — will also take centre stage. The singing group, which she’s been helping to form, will debut in the same storyline.

“We’re working with a real dementia choir for these scenes,” Brooks explained. “It’s important to show that there’s still life, joy and humour. Just because Debbie’s been handed this diagnosis doesn’t mean she becomes a completely different person. Debbie’s still Debbie.”

Family, Friendship, and Fighting Spirit

Brooks emphasised that while Debbie’s dementia story remains important, it won’t define her character. Viewers will continue to see her navigating life, love, and business — and tackling every challenge with her trademark wit and warmth.

“She’s planning her wedding, she’s still running her business, and she wants her family — especially Kevin and Carl — to be united again,” Brooks said. “Her stories are not just about her diagnosis. They’re about living with it and enjoying life.”

The producer also hinted at fresh dynamics as Debbie’s friendship circle expands to include Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor), Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger), Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove), and Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins).

“It’s classic Corrie,” Brooks promised. “These women on nights out, getting into mischief, sharing earthy humour. Debbie’s part of this gang, and it’s a lot of fun to watch.”
