Coronation Street fans have been left scratching their heads after recognising George Shuttleworth’s new love interest.

George (Tony Maudsley) has had a difficult time recently on the ITV soap. In June, he split with Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver), when Eileen left the cobbles after 25 years.

The pair first struck up a romance a few years back and eventually moved in together. This year though, their relationship fizzled out, following the sad death of Eileen’s sister Julie (Katy Cavanagh).

Wanting to start a new chapter, Eileen decided to leave Weatherfield and moved to Thailand with son Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas).

George has had a rough love life

Since then, George has been left heartbroken, but last week, his sister Glenda (Jodie Prenger) signed him up on a dating app. And despite being hesitant at first, George changed his tune.

In Monday’s episode (August 11) George headed out for a date with a woman called Samantha, whom he has been chatting to on the app. At the Rovers, Samantha arrived but straight away Glenda recognised her as one of her primary school pals.

Unfortunately for George, Samantha spent the entire date recalling her school days with Glenda, much to George’s dismay.

However, after Samantha made her debut on the soaps, fans have been left stumped as they “recognise” the actress who plays her.

On a Corrie Facebook fan page, one person wrote: “Can someone tell me what George’s date has been in before? I recognise her.” Someone else added: “Same here.” A third chimed in: “The internet says Emmerdale and Grange Hill apparently.”

Samantha is played by actress Liz Carney. She has appeared in Emmerdale four times, playing a liaison officer in May 2008 and a therapist in October 2010. She appeared again in February 2014 as an unnamed woman, and played the role of Janet in January 2020.
